Newsletter excerpts are a great tool to have at your disposal when sending communications. Find out how to use them here.

A newsletter excerpt sits at the top of your newsletter and, whilst they aren't mandatory to include, the excerpt provides an opportunity for you to give your users an overview of the content included, and encourage them to click in and read more.

If sending a newsletter to your whole platform audience, there will be some different elements that capture their attention, so it is great to highlight what you think will grab a range of people. The excerpt can be a maximum of 300 characters so you'll need to keep it fairly short and sweet.

What should a good newsletter excerpt do?

  • Highlight your main piece(s) of content to draw the reader's attention

  • Mention any key dates such as events that are happening soon or competition closing dates

  • Include a call to action such as 'Click below to find out more!'

  • The excerpt is also a good opportunity to talk directly to your users so why not try writing something more personalised such as 'Happy Friday, Equiem Hub Community! In this week's newsletter, we're showing you how to write a great newsletter excerpt, what constitutes effective communication, and more!'
