Drilling up/down

Drilling up/down

In some instances, you may wish to get a more detailed insight into a particular day or week of data as opposed to a broader overview. To do this, we can ‘drill down’ the data in graphs to gain a deeper understanding of what happened in that time frame.

  • Firstly, you need to locate the graph displaying the data you wish to drill down into. In the below example, this is Page Views Over Time.

  • Click on the graph in the top white section. The edges will turn grey to confirm you have selected the graph.

  • Find the week you would like to drill down into.

Tip: To get a quick look at the data from the week, hover your mouse above the week. A small table will appear as below.

  • Click on the point on the graph where the horizontal line meets the vertical line. Circled in the below screenshot.

  • Once you have clicked the week you wish to drill down into, all the accompanying data on the Analytics Dashboard tab you are on, will update to reflect this.

  • For example, in the below screenshot you can see the data before the Page Views Over Time graph was drilled down into, and after.

Before:

After:

  • You can see the surrounding data such as Page Views and Average Views per User has updated to reflect the week we have drilled down into.

  • You can also see the small dot points on the graph over the week commencing 7th Feb to clarify which week has been selected.

  • To drill back up, click the same week again to unselect it and return to the time frame inputted in the controls.

Note: The same principle applies for drilling down into bar graphs however when you click on the coloured block of the bar you are interested in, a small menu will appear asking if you would like to either drill down into Day, or drill up to Month or Quarter.

The example below shows what would appear if you wanted to either drill up or down in the category of email clicks.
