How to announce a competition winner

Wondering how to announce a competition winner? We've got you covered.

Choosing a competition winner will depend on the terms and conditions outlined when the competition opens. Will the winner be chosen at random or do participants need to provide a correct answer to win?

Winner will be chosen at random:

Head to the comment report on the competition post to view the full list of entries. We recommend then using a random number generator to determine the winner of the competition. Simply enter the number of entries you have received to generate the winning comment number.

Winner will need to provide a correct answer:

If you are running a competition where the winner will need to provide the correct answer, you will still head to the comment report on your competition post to determine who answered correctly. In the event that there is more than one correct answer, we recommend using the random number generator again. Follow the same steps as above using the number of correct answers to decide who the winner is.

Announcing a competition winner:

To announce a competition winner, you'll first need to get in contact with them via the method specified in the terms and conditions to inform them they have won e.g. by email. If the campaign you are running includes a winner announcement post, you can fill in the relevant details and publish the content. If it doesn't, create a simple winner announcement news post. Make sure to make the post relevant to your competition and only use a member's first name in the content.

It's also helpful to keep track of all of your competition winners and the prize(s) handed out in a spreadsheet tracker. This can be used to refer back to for prize inspiration and to see who has previously won to avoid having the same person win multiple times if necessary.

Tip: Take a photo of your winners with their prizes and add them to your announcement news posts, it's great for people to see the faces of their community.
